This installation explores the relationship between us and our digital other, encouraging a playful interaction with one’s abstracted silhouette. It is part game, part behavioral study.
Standing in front of a neutral background up to four players can interact with virtual objects projected in front of them. Shady encounters was shown at KISD, Cologne and Bilgi University, Instanbul.
As of today (2015) this would be an easy installation to set up as contemporary technology like Microsoft’s Xbox One Kinect sensor deliver depth information to the user. Our method of using an ordinary webcam to gather the visual data proved much more challenging as we had to physically construct a giant plain background for this to work accurately.
