typeface is an ongoing series of typographic portraits featuring icons of popular culture. It started as a seminar work at KISD in 2010 when I was asked to create a typographic representation of a song lyric. I picked John Lennon's »Imagine«, assembling Lennon's face into what would become the first typeface of the series.
All typefaces are set in a custom process. A typeface would typically take anywhere from ten to a hundred hours to assemble, based on the complexity of the motive.
